The brilliant Cape Guineas and Investec Derby winner Capetown Noir was crowned champion 3yo colt at the Cape Racing Awards held at Nooitgedacht last night.
The son of Western Winter was bred by Lammerskraal Stud and is owned by Lady Christine Laidlaw. He went down narrowly in the KRA Guineas and the Gr1 Daily News 2000 during the recent Champions Season.
A proud Dean Kannemeyer said afterwards that he was thrilled that the smashingly talented colt had received the prestigious award.
"Lady Laidlaw has put a lot into buying quality stock and is a great supporter of ours. I am thrilled for her and Lammerskraal Stud, as well as our Bloodstock Consultant Jehan Malherbe. Training champions and winning the Gr1 races is a huge team effort that starts long before the horse hits the racecourse."
Dean confirmed that Capetown Noir was being rested and that he would be back for the Cape Summer Season and that he intended focussing on the L'Ormarin's Queen's Plate and the J&B Met.
