A thrilling midweek hat-trick for the Dean Kannemeyer Racing team was the highlight of an exciting Scottsville racemeeting in the Pietermaritzburg capital on Wednesday.
The DKR Summerveld satellite base continued the good form in the face of stiff SA Champions Season competition in recent weeks and Dean said afterwards that he was thrilled with the confidence booster in advance of a busy weekend that lies ahead.
Labelled a classy and sensible filly, the Cape Cross debutante Damaraland, impressed at her first visit to the track when she scored an effortless win in the hands of Anthony Delpech in a 1200m Maiden Plate.
Bred by Riethuiskraal, she races in the famous yellow and black of Jessica Slack’s Mauritzfontein Stud.
The well-bred filly looks likely to go further as she matures.
The leading stud were back in the DKR news two races later – this time as breeders of the solid stayer, One Man Show.
The 3yo son of Tiger Ridge registered his third win when staying on well in an MR 72 Handicap run over the testing 2400m – again under Anthony Delpech.
One Man Show did things the hard way and despite hanging late in the race, showed massive heart to stay on best. He races for Mesdames Victoria Dickerson, Irene Rudden & UK-based Martin Holland.
Rated a classic prospect, the Drakenstein bred and raced The Slade rounded off the hat-trick, registering his second win from 7 starts when powerering home under Warren Kennedy to win the topliner, an MR 86 Handicap run over 1700m.
Coming off a rest of 5 months, The Slade, a handsome son of Philanthropist showed courage and class off a slow pace that would not have suited a big galloping horse.
“We are yet to see the best of him,” said Dean after a great day at the office.
