Double For Dean on Friday 13th

A ‘terrific double’ is how Dean described his two winners at the very first polytrack meeting held at a festive Greyville Racecourse on Friday evening.

Top owner Fred Crabbia has enjoyed a purple patch of late with the Kannemeyer yard and his Jet Master mare Hijacked scored a great win in the MR 82 Handicap run over 1800m. It was the Ascot Stud bred’ sixth career win from just 33 starts.

“Well done to Fred and Emma. She simply loves Durban and enjoyed the surface tonight. And what a superb ride by Karl Neisius,” said Dean.

The veteran Neisius found himself with nowhere to go at the 300m marker and had to make a split second decision to switch out twice. Hijacked flew late to get up on the line.

The Highlands’ bred Trippi gelding Speed Rocket then won the MR 93 Handicap run over a mile going away.

Khaya Stables own yet another smart 3yo and Dean said he was a horse who was going to be an exciting 4yo in the Cape summer. Speed Rocket has now won 3 from 10 starts and looks very unlikely to stop here.

Divine Jet ran a disappointing race in the Gr2 Post Merchants, when unplaced behind the Var flyer Varikate.

“It is back to the drawing board for him. He is such a superbly talented  horse but is not producing his home work at the track,” said Dean.
