Power Kin is on ihs own at the finish

Our very smart Silvano colt Power King pulled up well after his resounding victory in Sunday's Gr3 Tekkie Town Winter Guineas.

The race is the first leg of the lucrative Cape Winter Series Triple Crown and was run over a mile in wet conditions.

The series has only ever been won once previously and then by a legend in Pocket Power.

Karl Neisius rode a confident race on Sunday from off the pace and despite some minor traffic issues, the son of Silvano won like a good horse.

The Maine Chance Farms product is now a winner of 3 from 8.

"The fellow has some good ability and had bad luck in the Derby. He was also not far off Elusive Gold in the Guineas and miles ahead of the rest. I thought he would beat this field and we will now look at stepping him up to 1800m in the next leg. I am not saying we will win all three legs as triple crowns are not just there for the taking. But he is very smart and we will take it race by race," said Dean.

Power King lead in W GuineasDavid Lilley saddled Power King for Khaya Stables in Dean's absence in Durban, where Capetown Noiir ran a cracking third in the Drill Hall Stakes on Saturday.

The next two les of the series:

Leg 2: The R250,000 Winter Classic (Grade 3) 1800m

(Kenilworth Winter Course Saturday 31 May 2014)

 Leg 3: The R250,000 Winter Derby (Grade 3) 2400m

(Kenilworth Winter Course Saturday 28 June 2014)

A bonus of R250,000 will be paid to owner/s of the horse that wins all three legs of the Winter Series!
