Dean Kannemeyer bids for his fourth Vodacom Durban July win on Saturday and his second with a son of Silvano.
The 4yo KZN Derby winner Mr Winsome rounded off his big race preparation in style at Scottsville last Sunday and made a cameo appearance at the official July public gallops on Thursday 22 June.
Looking a picture of health after his 2400m Gr3 victory just four days earlier, Mr Winsome did a light 400m canter and got the thumbs-up from the media.
Dean said afterwards: “ I’m very happy with his Betting World 1900 performance. That’s what made me think of supplementing him for the July. He is well weighted and is a tough, sound and consistent horse. I won this race two years ago with Power King off a similar weight so I don’t think that he’s without a chance,” the conservative horseman added.
Mr Winsome will be ridden by Warren Kennedy who is bidding for his first July win and will jump from a midfield 10 draw.
Dean closed by saying that he was particularly pleased for Mr Winsome’s owners Gladys and Roy Meaker, Barry Zeidel, Victoria and Darryl Dickerson, Bryn Ressell and George Nichas.
“It is every owner, trainer, jockey and breeder’s dream to win this great race. We will be ready for action. It’s an unforgiving race and a test of a top horse. Our man is ready!”
